Do You Want to Knit Your First Sweater?

Swell SweaterWhen we started the store (three years ago), Linda Alvarez was one of our first regular visitors. She was working on a beautiful sweater called the “Swell Sweater” by Cindy Taylor. It had been featured in the Interweave Knits Spring 2004. The original yarn used for the pattern was Louet Euroflax Aberdeen Heathers which is plied Linen and not to everyone’s taste.

Sudha saw the techniques used in the sweater and decided to knit one for herself. She used a store staple – Cascade 200 in it’s Quattro colors. As Sudha is apt to do, she changed a few things in the sweater to suit herself – minor changes around the neckline. She wore it to the store often and people started to comment on how much they liked it and started to request a class.

We have put the class together, with Linda teaching the class. We have been busy making sure all the components were there. Linda’s original is at the store on display and Sudha has decided her well-worn one needs to be washed and blocked again. The class starts on March 14th – giving you plenty of time to block it off on your calendar, pick the colors of your sweater and make sure you have a lot of needles available. Check out our class schedule for all the details.

PS: Sudha’s husband Gopal took the picture for the class listing and blog. Needless to say the photos were amusing and this one phtograph was the only one where Sudha was not giving instructions to the photographer.

Malabrigo in the House!

We are in heaven right now! Our very nice UPS man delivered 5 boxes of Malabrigo Worsted Weight yarn on Monday, January 25th 2009. And those boxes were quickly unpacked and stacked on the shelves by Sudha, Linda and Melissa. Today is Tuesday and we have 36 colors of Malabrigo in stock at the store – oops, it’s now 35 colors. Come and choose your new colors quickly!

Malabrigo Merino Worsted is an Aran weight yarn that comes in hand-dyed 100 grams or 3.5 oz skeins. It has 216 yards per skein. This yarn is kettle-dyed and comes from a small family-owned company in Uruguay. Some ideas of things to knit with Malabrigo Merino Worsted?

Koolhaas HatKoolhaas by Jared Flood: This pattern can be downloaded directly from the Interweave Knits website for a small charge.
