Mark your calendars for the weekend of September 18th – 21st for the second annual Peninsula to Pier LYS Shop Hop. Last year was such a blast, and this year is sure to be even more fun. We’ve added several new shops to the map and we’re actively working on great one-skein projects. Stop by the shop in the next couple of weeks to get a preview of a very cute (and easy) pattern. We love it, and we’re sure you will too!
For those of you that have not done this event before, this is a great way to get to visit many of your local yarn stores in the Bay Area, each special in their own way. We will have between 16 and 19 stores participating. You get a passport and get a stamp at each store over a period of 4 days and extended hours. So grab a knitting friend and enjoy the experience of the Peninsula to Pier Shop Hop.

We’ve been looking for ways to be more eco-friendly and have hit on one idea. Yes, there will be more ideas. And we commissioned a bag with the Nine Rubies logo. The bag is made of Natural cotton canvas with hardy poly web handles. It’s quite perfect for carrying your knitting around or your yarn finds from the store. The bag is normally a $9.00 value.
Now comes the sneaky way to get the bag for free!
As all of you know, we are celebrating World Wide Knit in Public Day in Central Park, San Mateo on Saturday, June 14th, 2008. See our previous blog for more details. For everyone who joins us for WWKIP Day, they will score a coupon for the new Nine Rubies bag. You get to use the coupon and get the free bag when you make your next purchase at the store.
For people using the cotton bag to carry away their purchases and not use a paper or plastic store bag, we will give a $1 off your purchases with a minimum purchase of $20 because you’re a good person. And you’re being nice to the environment.

Do you look at patterns and say “I wish I could do that”? Maybe you wonder “Why do people love Rowan Kidsilk Haze? It looks so hard to work with.” What about beads? Do you say “Gee, that’s way out of my league.”? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, we have the perfect class for you.
On Saturday, July 12th (10 am – 5 pm with a one-hour break for lunch), designer Rosemary (Romi) Hill will be at the shop to teach all the ins and outs of lace knitting with beads. Her workshop will teach easy to intermediate techniques to make the stunning Knitty Ice Queen. You’ll learn to read charts, work a provisional cast-on, the Russian join, working with beads and picot cast-off. Romi will also share some valuable lace-knittin tips and tricks (including how to knit in the round without twisting stitches, how to use stitch markers, lifelines, and more).
Romi is also a very talented designer of shawl pins. She uses a variety of natural materials, metals and cloisonne to create unique pins in different sizes and designs. We’ll be having a trunk show during the day, and many of her most popular designs will be available for sale here at the shop.
