We’ve had so many kids learn to knit in the last year. It’s been great to see their enthusiasm for the craft of knitting grow and grow. We’re having two weeks of camp this summer which will cover the basics of knitting (or more advanced techniques for kids who already know how), and projects such as beading, pom-pom making and many others from our super-creative teacher Christina! The kids may knit a washcloth, cell phone cozy or wristwarmer. Children can sign up for one or both weeks. Rest assured that they’ll be kept busy and enthralled! Each week is $100. The class is for children ages 9-12 years. Stop by the shop or call to register (650-685-6205).

Local Author (and Nine Rubies Customer) Rebecca Wat has written a wonderful new book called Knit Tricks: 25 Stylish Projects from Simple Rectangles. As the name implies, all of the designs begin with rectangles. So, even a dedicated scarf knitter can take her skills to a new level and create beautiful, stylish garments out of a rectangle! An added benefit is that many of the yarns purchased here at the shop, so you won’t need to do any complicated yarn substitutions. We will have copies of the book in the shop in the next week, and samples are on display now.
Please join us on Saturday, April 26th, from 3:30-5:00 pm to meet Rebecca and have her sign your book. Rebecca will be talking about the inspiration for her designs and how to turn a simple rectangle into a knock-out.

We will be happy to wind it for you another day.

In between exhibiting at Stitches (what a fun weekend!) and unpacking new spring yarns (have you seen the new organic cotton from Rowan, PureLife?), we’ve been busy planning new classes. Here are two new classes and some updates on new sessions of our most popular offerings.
Cabled Vest with Julie
Back in January, we had a number of customers who took Melissa Leapman’s cable workshops. You might be wondering “Now that I know how to cable, what can I do with them?” We have a new class that will put those skills to great use. Instructor Julie Montanari will be teaching a Cabled Vest class beginning Monday, March 31st, 5 -7 pm. It runs for 5 sessions ($120 plus materials), and it will cover a lot of cabling options as well as garment construction and finishing. It’s a great opportunity to learn to knit this versatile project and learn some new skills.
Here are the dates: Mondays, March 31st, April 7th, 14th, 28th, and May 12th, 5 -7 pm
Fair Isle Fingerless Mitts with Linda
Linda’s Fair Isle Bag class has been one of ourmost popular. We’re now offering a new Fair Isle class that is perfect for those who are new to this technique as well as more experienced knitters. It uses two colors of sock yarn – one is a solid and one is a variegated. This 3-session class ispacked with techniques that you will be able to use on many future projects. Not only that, you can create unique mitts and bust some of your sock stash at the same time!
This class is offered on three consecutive Sundays for $75. March 22nd, 29th, April 5th, 10 am – 12 pm
