The excitement is building for Lily Chin’s workshops here at Nine Rubies. Some of our customers are already familiar with Lily ( having tried unsuccessfully many times to get into her sold out Stitches classes. If you haven’t seen Lily in action before, now’s your chance. She’ll be appearing (for the third time, no less) on HGTV’s popular knitting show Knitty Gritty on Friday, April 30th. Unfortunately, the show airs at 7:00 am, so set your VCRs or Tivos. We are certainly intrigued by the topic of this episode.
Here are the program details:
Hooked on Knitting
The line is crossed today on Knitty Gritty. The infamous Lily Chin, record holder for speed in the fiber arts, has developed a way to make the crochet stitches with knitting needles in a unique way. Today she demonstrates chaining and double-crochet with knitting needles as she makes a staright-needle case and a cute double-pointed needle-case with fluffy yarn.

Summer is here (yay!!) and summer hours at your LYS are changing. Don’t worry, we are still open all 7 days of the week. Starting May 1st and until August 31st, 2007, we will have slightly different hours at the store. So, here are our new hours:
Sat-Sun: 10 am to 5 pm
Mon-Fri: 11 am to 7 pm
Open Late Wednesday – generally until 8:00 pm (but later if there are 5 or more people).
Not much of a change, right? I hope not because we looked at the traffic at the store and it turns very quiet during specific times during the summer.
And there are all those holidays: We will be closed on 4th of July (enjoying BBQ with our families) but will be open on Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Misti Alpaca has just shipped us 6 beautiful colors in their worsted weight Baby Alpaca. And they have hand-dyed them. Luscious beautiful colors!!

And this picture doesn’t do the yarn much justice – the colors are even more beautiful (more saturated) in reality. And it’s so new, it hasn’t made it to the Misti web site yet. We are so thrilled to be one of the first to carry this. Each skein is 218 yards, 100 grams, and $19.80 at full price. Of course, if you are members or come on sale day, it gets even cheaper.
For the Gauge, we recommend US 6/7 needles and it should give you 5 or 5.5 stitches per inch. Now it’s just a question of which pattern would suit this yarn the most.
